Handfasting

Handfasting is a beautiful ritual that can be added to any ceremony, or celebrated on its own as a full, stand alone experience.

It’s a meaningful way to mark an engagement, renew your vows, or honour the deep roots of Irish tradition through the wisdom of the (pre-Christian) Brehon Laws. At the heart of the handfasting is a simple, powerful idea: two people freely offering their hands, and their hearts to each other, with open eyes and full intention.

Under Brehon Law, which was surprisingly progressive for its time, handfasting often acted as a kind of trial period an honest acknowledgement that building a life together isn’t always easy, and that love grows stronger through mutual understanding and choice.

When included as part of a wedding ceremony, handfasting marks the transition from engagement into a new chapter of shared commitment and partnership.

It’s a warm, symbolic gesture and a deeply personal moment that speaks to connection, trust, and the journey ahead.
